Hold the Judge of Elections Accountable: Demand Fairness and Transparency

Our union’s future depends not just on who leads us, but on the integrity of the election process itself. For too long, the Judge of Elections and those overseeing our elections have been hand-picked by the current Executive Board—individuals who are now or have previously been employed by the union in various capacities. These deep personal and professional ties to the leadership raise serious concerns about impartiality.

How can members trust the integrity of this election when those responsible for overseeing nominations have direct connections to the very people in power? What safeguards exist to prevent candidates from being unfairly disqualified on a technicality, silencing new voices and protecting the status quo?

The Judge of Elections must be held accountable to a fair, transparent, and democratic process. Every ballot—whether cast, rejected, or even those printed but never sent out—must be fully tracked and accounted for. Without strict oversight, how can members be sure their votes count and that this election truly reflects their will?

Key Election Dates:

  • April 5th - Nomination Meeting (Union Hall - 19092 26 Ave, Surrey BC V3S 3V7)

  • April 11th - Ballots Mailed Out

  • May 9th - Ballots To Be Received at the Designated Post Office: NO LATER Than 9:00 AM

Questions Every Member Should Be Asking to Ensure a Fair Election:

  • How many ballots are being printed, and who is overseeing the process?

  • How are ballots secured when collected from the post office?

  • What measures are in place to prevent tampering?

  • Are independent auditors verifying that no legitimate ballots are being wrongfully rejected?

  • How are rejected ballots reviewed, and is there a transparent appeals process?

  • What oversight exists to track ballots that were printed but never sent out?

  • Who is ensuring the election remains fair and free from bias?

We deserve an election process free from favoritism and backroom dealings. Those responsible for overseeing our union’s election—including the Judge of Elections—must be held to the highest standard of transparency and accountability.

Take Action: Hold the Election Judges Accountable

Attend the nomination meeting this Saturday, April 5th, 10:00 AM, at the Local 1611 and make your voice heard. Demand that election judges perform their duties with integrity, free from bias. But don’t stop there—stay engaged throughout the process. Attend meetings, ask questions, and ensure that fairness isn’t just promised, but delivered.

When you receive your ballot, fill it out correctly—don’t give anyone a reason to reject your vote. Every vote matters, and every member’s voice must be counted.

This is about your right to fair representation—don’t let it be undermined.

Stand up. Speak out. Take charge. Stay involved.

Make a difference. Vote for change. Vote for your future.

Your Voice. Your Union. Your Power.

In Solidarity,

The Voice of the Members
