Paying Dues, Getting Screwed:  Where’s the Work for Our Members?

Does the following highlight your experience as a member of Liuna 1611 - paying dues year after year, only to be shut out of job opportunities, misled about benefits, and dismissed when you ask for answers.  The current leadership claims to represent us all, but time and again, their actions show otherwise.  Too many of your members have experienced the same pattern.

One of our sisters that has reached out to us was told by dispatch that she would qualify for a first aid course reimbursement if she took and passed the course.  She did exactly that, only to be denied reimbursement on a technicality she wasn't informed of until after she spent her own money.  The excuse?  She hadn’t worked in the past 12 months.  But the reality is even worse - she couldn’t work because there were no job calls for her.

For 2 ½ years, she has faithfully paid her union dues, yet she’s only received two job calls.  Meanwhile, the same select few continue to get work while others are left waiting indefinitely.  Dispatch keeps claiming there are no openings, but somehow, certain members never seem to have an issue finding jobs.  This isn’t mismanagement, it’s a failure of leadership.

A strong union should create opportunities for its members, not excuses.  It should fight for fairness, not allow a system where only insiders benefit.  If this leadership was truly working for all of us, we wouldn’t be hearing the same stories of frustration and betrayal over and over again!

This election is our chance to demand real change.  If you’re tired of being ignored, of watching a broken system work against you instead of for you, then it’s time to vote for leadership that will fight for every member-not just a select few.

Your Voice. Your Union. Your Power.

This Spring, Your Voice is Your Power!  Take charge, make a difference - Vote for Change!

In solidarity,

The Voice of the Members
